There is some kind of unhappiness among the people of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai over the manner the paramount chief of the area is treating the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
According to the people of the area, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, on some occasions, said certain unpalatable things about the MP, Mr. Alfred Obeng-Boateng.
Per what the people are saying, the paramount chief, who is also the president of the National House of Chiefs, had issues with Mr. Obeng-Boateng immediately he won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the area to contest to become the MP.
What is making the people to raise issues with the Omanhene of Sefwi-Anhwiaso is the manner he handled the MP at an event on February 14, this year, held at Bibiani during a public forum that attracted the traditional rulers and their subjects from the Sankore Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Nkawie Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region and Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area in the Western North Region, as part of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) procedure to grant a permit to Mensin Gold Mining (Bibiani) Ltd.
The Omanhene was captured on audio using certain words on the MP which the people of the area think were not right and proper.
On the audio, which is in the possession of The Inquisitor, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi, in no small way, belittled the MP and said he could not be more important than the chiefs in the area.
Mr. Akwasi Tano, a resident of Bibiani, is of the view that even if the MP has offended the paramount chief, there should be a better way of resolving it and not to humiliate and attack the MP in public.
According to him, the way the people are getting worried over the developments and also if care is not taken the paramount chief would be disrespected in the future.
Mr. Obeng-Boateng is noted for his humility and philanthropic activities in the area, even before he became the MP.
Mr. Tano claimed that the February 14 incident was not the first time that Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi had subjected the MP to humiliation, but a similar incident took place in Accra at the Movenpick Hotel, when they met Kinross Chirano Gold Mines.
“We as people of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai are appealing to our Paramount Chief to desist from such unholy activities against the MP who is always calm and doing his work,’’ he said.
He said: “We respect our Paramount Chief who is a board member of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and President of the GNPC Foundation and he must also accord the MP with some respect too.’’
The Inquisitor has been told that the way the MP was being treated has divided the NPP in the area and that would likely affect the forward move of the party.
