Ejura Shooting: Gov’t Compensates Families Of Deceased With 250k Each

Government has compensated families of the two victims who were killed in the Ejura shooting incident in the Ashanti Region.

The compensation of the families of the deceased, comes on the back of recommendations made by a three-member committee set up by government to investigate circumstances leading to the shooting incident.

Deputy Minister for the Interior Naana Eyiah Quansah presented a cheque of GHS250, 000 each to two families. The presentation of the cheque amounting to GHS 500,000 is in fulfillment of government’s promise to the families of the deceased.

Two persons, Mutala Suraj Mohammed and Abdul Nasir Yussif died following gunshots wounds they during a protest over the murder of social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed popularly called Kaaka while 4 others were injured.

Two persons lost their lives and four others sustained injuries in a clash between protesters and a joint security force made up of military and police personnel on Tuesday, 29 June 2021.

The youth of Ejura were enraged by the murder of social media activist Ibrahim Muhammed, popularly known as Kaaka.

Kaaka, 45, a resident of Dagombaline at Ejura, was ambushed in front of his house when he was returning home on his motorbike at about 1:30 pm on Saturday, 27 June 2021.

He was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital but was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he died while on admission on Sunday, 28 June 2021.

The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, under the instruction of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, appointed the three-member committee on Thursday, 1 July 2021, to enquire into the circumstances that led to the shooting of two civilians by military personnel during a demonstration by angry youth of Ejura, following the murder of the social media activist.
