The failure of the ruling party to get the electronic levy passed in Parliament can be attributed to the decision of the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to hold Government to ransom.
MyAbclive can authoritatively state that the Dome-Kwabenya MP, for reasons best known to herself, has been derailing the efforts of Government to have E-levy passed.
It could be recalled that when the Government at first wanted the levy to be passed, Adwoa Safo was not within the jurisdiction.
It took the intervention of the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare, who practically begged the MP to come down from the US.
Indications are that, even when she got into the country, the Chief of Staff begged her for hours before she made an appearance in Parliament.
Adwoa Safo is back in the United States and is unwilling to fly down. A female MP in the Ashanti Region who is related to her has since been dispatched to US to go and convince her to return.
It is easy to deduce from the above that the E-levy was not passed last week due to the absence of Adwoa Safo. Until she decides to fly down, the levy’s passage will continue to be in limbo.
The latest discussion making rounds in the party is that, the on-leave Gender Minister should be dismissed from the party and a bye election organised in Dome Kwabenya for her intransigence.
