The on-time intervention of the Asamankese Police Petrol Team together with Police Personnel assigned to Breku-Manso check Point in West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region saved couples from Lynching by aggrieved Youth in Owuram who accused the couples of murdering a 13-year-old girl.
The police in Asamankese quickly sent the suspects to the District office for Interrogation and the case is currently under investigation.
The couples (Obaa Yaa and Kwasi) were chased from Owuram cemetery on Wednesday
afternoon by the Youth during the burial of the late Patience Yeboah Ekpe, a Primary six pupil, aged 13 who died in hospital last week after complaining of a headache.
According to the aggrieved Youth, the husband of Obaa Yaa whose name was only given as Kwasi was seen putting black polythene bags containing pepper, white handkerchief, leaves, and ring suspected to be for rituals inside the grave of the deceased while they were covering it.
The Youth were furious so they chased the suspected murderer and his wife, Obaa Yaa who is a sibling of the deceased with sticks, and decided to lynch them and bury them instantly because they suspect the couples of killing the deceased for money rituals.
Citizens Police rescued them by locking them in a room nearby the cemetery and upon Interrogation, the male suspect confessed that her wife, Obaa Yaa was accused of killing the deceased so he went somewhere to find out and he was directed by a spiritualist to put the black polythene bag containing items in the grave of deceased and after burial, the person who killed the deceased will be exposed.
According to the suspect, his wife Obaa Yaa who is a sibling of the deceased was also accused by her family of being a witch since he married her and has four kids with her now.
A Taxi belonging to the suspects was taken away by the police who nearly lost control over the aggrieved Youth when they were rescuing the suspects.
One Emmanuel Aboagye, Member of the Catholic Youth Organization in Owuram said the late Ekpe was a practicing Catholic who was a key player in the church and was a lector and described the late Patience Yeboah Ekpe as Innocent, respectful, God-fearing, and intelligent who lost her mother at infancy and has been with her grandmother for some years now.
He said Ekpe was Very Active in church and believed she was spiritually killed by some people because she was a Virgin and she could have had a brighter future because she was always seen in School and church only.
