Agogo: 28-year-old Man Escapes From Hospital After An Accident
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Health officials at the male emergency ward of the Asante Akyem Agogo Presbyterian Government Hospital were astonished this morning when residents of Agogo APTC gave them a hint of an escaped patient. The 28-year-old patient, Emmanuel Adu, had escaped from the male’s emergency ward after he had woken up from a stressful coma.

Emmanuel after his capture hinted that he was going to eat Banku and Okro stew. The man who is suffering from dementia and brain stress, could not specify where he was going, but all he could state was the banku and the okro stew.

We don’t know what came over him physically, but from his medical history, we now understand him and are doing the needed treatments to have him cured and if possible, refer him to a mental hospital if the need should arise, Dr Sylvester Bekoe explained after Emmanuel was brought back to the hospital. Emmanuel is still at the hospital while health officials continue to monitor his health and mental state.

His family, mother and siblings, are with him at the hospital to help him recover. He has been served the banku and okro stew. Doctors believe, serving him that food will help his recovery and has given him a full bowl of banku and okro stew. Dr Bekoe who paid for the food was puzzled by the energy Emmanuel used to eat the food.

Dr Bekoe believes as the new mental treatment goes on, Emmanuel should be ok for discharge after the New Year.

Case Briefing

Emmanuel Adu the victim, was not born with mental sickness but something that affected him while he was in school. The sickness which has been classified as a dormant illness is an off and on sickness which comes once in a while.

Emmanuel was fine on the 22 December as he prepared himself for Xmas holidays. He was crossing the road at Agogo Hwideim when a saloon car knocked him down partially. The owner of the saloon vehicle, Robert Atuahene, was driving from Agogo to Domeabra when Emmanuel crossed him at the Hwidiem bus stop.

Robert Atuahene in other to save Emmanuel drifted his car sideways and rather hit Emmanuel with his backside. Emmanuel suffered minor injuries but he wasn’t responding after the accident. He was taken to the hospital on the same day and after several testing, Emmanuel was confirmed to have gone into a coma.

Doctors were not told of Emmanuel’s mental situation as he was admitted to the hospital from 22 December the accident occurred to this morning when he woke up. Emmanuel with oxygen on his nose, took the oxygen out and together with his water fusion cannulas, Emmanuel escaped from the hospital’s emergency ward using the windows exit.

The accident had affected his thinking and resurrected his dormant brain seizures and mental unstableness. It was after his capture, the family told the hospital about the mental sickness.

Dr Bekoe, the in-charge doctor of Emmanuel’s case, did not just laugh when Emmanuel stated he was going to eat Banku and Okro stew. The doctor paid for the Banku and Okro stew and has again paid for the mental treatment of Emmanuel for all the number of days he will spend in the hospital.
