Two persons, all females, have been confirmed dead at Kasoa Liberia Camp after a car accident this morning. The two, all market women, were heading to the Kasoa Liberia Camp market road when a Mercedes Benz saloon vehicle allegedly lost control of its brakes.
At the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Junction, the junction that leads to the Kasoa to Cape Coast road was where the two female pedestrians stood waiting for a clear road to cross the road to the other side. Eye witness Anlloka John, narrated that, the driver of the Mercedes may have been sleeping despite having a brake failure and that may have been the main cause of the accident.
The car wasn’t at maximum speed so even if the brakes had failed as the driver had insisted, there would have not been any casualty if he was consistent on the road with his eyes. Only a sleeping driver can cause this accident looking the situation, Anlloka narrated.
The driver to the Mercedes, Fiifi Manuel, has confessed to losing his brakes and that made him hit the two pedestrians standing by the road on the Liberia Camp market road, before the curve to the CAC junction.
“I tried getting back the brakes but it was not working.” Fiifi explained.
There were no horns from Fiifi warning drivers and pedestrians of the brake failure but Fiifi Manuel still held the view, his car brakes caused him to hit the women. Despite a normal speed that could make him divert the car’s steering to the other side, Fiifi still defended himself with the car brakes, a thing eyewitness argued to be false.
Fiifi was alleged to have slept on the wheel and that made him lose control of the vehicle and crashed the two women. The first woman, identified as Mary Kwanseman, was crushed to death on the spot. The vehicle carried her about 6 metres away from the road after the accident.
Hozie Gifty, the second woman who died at the Kasoa Polyclinic, sustained injuries to her left abdomen but couldn’t make it and died at the hospital this morning. The accident which happened around 4:30 am has been taken over the police. Fiifi was in handcuffs at the Kasoa Polyclinic for minor injuries and is expected to face the law after his recovery.
