Sampson Wiredu, 27, and Ernest Ohemeng, 24, has been arrested by the Goaso District Police command for murdering a 25-year-old man. Sampson together with Ernest, on the night of 24 December 2021, invited their friend Eric Sarpong for a drink out after Eric had visited his family at Goaso Townpark.
Eric Sarpong, a special assistant to a businessman, had travelled to Kukom with his boss when he passed by Goaso to spend the holidays with his parents. Eric after dropping his boss in Kukom moved back to Goaso where he was invited to a party on Friday 24 December after arriving in Goaso on the same day.
It was during the trip to the party, Eric came to find out his boss had left some money in the back seat of the car. Sampson who first saw the money when he hopped into the car last night, thought the money belonged to Eric and confronted Ernest at the party over the said money.
The money which was in the tune of over GH¢124,000 according to the boss of Eric, was stolen by Sampson Wiredu and Ernest Ohemeng after they had inserted some poisonous substance into the drink of Eric. Eric at the party last night was handed a bottle of drink but the drink was poisoned.
Eric fell to his knees after drinking the beer and died before he was taken to the Goaso District Hospital. Officer Boadi, the investigating officer attested that the two friends; Sampson Wiredu and Ernest Ohemeng had planned to poison Eric so they could have spilt the money.
They gave him a poisoned beer and took the car away after his death. They took the car away because of the money and argued the car been involved an accident while they were coming from the party. Our investigation lead to the whereabouts of the car after the owner helped us with the GPS location.
The car was in perfect condition with no accident scenes except a planned self-inflicted accident. They had used stones to hit the backside of the car to prove the car had an accident and that lead to the death of Eric, but that wasn’t so as our investigations proved otherwise, Officer Boadi of Goaso Police Department shared this afternoon
The two friends are still at the police station helping with investigations.
