Over 15 Mourners Involved In A Serious Accident Whilst On Their Way To Funeral

Western North Region: Over 13 People Involved In A Car Accident
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

It appears accidents involving the lives of people are becoming rampant in the few days left for the Christmas celebrations. The past few days have been very rough for the people of the Western Region in particular since several accidents have been recorded both on the road and the rail.

Five persons died at Wassa Manso in the Mpohor District through a head one collision of two haulage trains. A few hours ago, another train collided with a tipper truck at Nkotompo in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis. Assemblyman for the area, Anthony Ephraim confirms that four persons are currently in critical conditions receiving treatment at the Efiankwanta Regional Hospital.

Just as residents of the Twin City are contemplating on what is happening, another serious accident has occurred and this time around, it involves mourners. Workers of Amandi at Angu-Manso had to spend many hours helping injured persons out of a vehicle. Over ten mourners were attending a funeral in the early morning when they had an accident.

The mourners, including ladies, were loaded at the bucket of a KIA truck. The driver of the vehicle was climbing a mountain along the road when the vehicle overturned. It, unfortunately, fell on the passengers getting them trapped on the ground. The workers of Amandi who were at the area when the incident happened quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the mourners.

An eyewitness, John Ackon reveals that most of the passengers were helpless because there was no equipment to assist them in removing the KIA truck. However, they managed to rescue the passengers after they got more hands to remove the KIA truck. Most of the passengers sustained serious injuries and could be seen on the floor battling for their lives. They have been transported to the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital for treatment.

This is another sad news befalling the people of the Western Region. Already, four persons are receiving treatment through road accidents and now, over thirteen have joined them in the same hospital. These unfortunate accidents are happening in a few days to Christmas where people are preparing to celebrate with their families. Drivers have been cautioned to be extra careful whilst on the road and ensure that their conduct do not endanger the lives of others but most some of them have refused to listen.

The Western Region MTTD command has visited the accident scene to begin investigations into the real cause, but drivers should be aware that the season demands endurance to be able to transport everyone to their destinations safely.
