Three people have been apprehended by the Atonsu Police of the Kumasi Regional Police Command. The three arrestees; Isaiah Mens (Office Clerk), Israel Boamah (Security Guard) and Osman Mohammed (Accountant), were arrested in the hours of 5:40 PM yesterday after investigations lead to their involvement in two separate robberies.
Osman Mohammed, the accountant of a company in Atonsu (Name withheld), on the 6 of August 2021 reported to the Senior Security Guard; Israel Boamah of his intentions to carry some huge sums of money to the bank. The money, GH¢92,589 were packed in three black polythene bags and together with the security guard, Osman set off from the premises of his company to the bank.
Osman before setting off, called the bank to make them aware he was bringing in funds since the bank’s closing time was almost due. The manager of the bank (name withheld), waited and waited for Osman but he never showed up. Osman was found unconscious on Saturday 7 August 2021 after he failed to show up in the bank with the money.
Osman and the security guard had both been involved in a robbery, the Hart Adventist Hospital officials said to the police on 10 August 2021. The company, puzzled by the robbery, took on investigations with a private detective to investigate how the accountant Osaman and his security guard were involved in the robbery that almost took their lives.
Stephen Patasu, the Operations Manager of the said company, thought of foul play when he argued the facts of the robbery don’t add up. Stephen on the 22 November decided to test Osman Mohammed after the 6 August robbery. Osman who was about to leave for the bank with another deposit of GH¢53,089 was stopped when the board directors of the company called for an urgent meeting on 22 November.
Stephen Patasu, the OPM, then took charge of the money with the aim of delivering the money to the bank but Stephen was crossed at the junction of Atonsu Kuwait Pentecost junction, and all the money were taken from him. With a report to the police on Tuesday 23 November 2021, Stephen narrated how the robbery took place and how one of the robber’s voices sounded familiar to him.
After 30 days of police investigations, it was confirmed that one of the robbers who took the money from Stephen Patasu was Isaiah Mens, an office clerk in the said company. Isaiah together with Osman Mohammed (Accountant) and Israel Boamah (the security guard), had planned the second robbery on Stephen Patasu to make the first robbery look real.
Police from Atonsu confirmed from call recordings and voice notes that, the three were behind the two robberies. From Osman’s phone, a WhatsApp voice recording note was sent to Israel Boamah to call the team in place to rob Stephen Patasu on 22 November when Stephen took the money from Osman after he was called to the urgent meeting.
The Atonsu police are still investigating how the accountant, office clerk and security guard were able to rob their company to the tune of GH¢145,678 in both robberies. The three; Isaiah Mens (Office Clerk), Israel Boamah (Security Guard) and Osman Mohammed (Accountant) will be in court today and there is a possibility they will be remanded into police custody.
