There have been series of reports on thuggery and lawlessness under the Akuffo Addo-led NPP government. Recall, the government has been fingered as the force behind the invasion of Parliament by some armed military personnel during the elections of the Speaker of Parliament. Also, there were several vidoe footages of gunshot and military takeovers at centres during the last elections, which claimed the lives of some innocent Ghanaians.
All the aforementioned incidents have added up to the justifications made by people alleging high lawlessness in the country. Recently, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party, Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe caused massive stir and uproar after he described the current government as a promoter of lawlessness and abuse of power. Undoubtedly, such reviews from statesmen and party bigwigs paints a bad picture about the party.
Earlier today, a private legal practitioner and a member of the NDC legal team, Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has said that the Akuffo-Addo government would go down in history as the worst government the country has had. He believes that, per his personal findings, this government has been chastised the most since it assumed office.
Speaking in an interview on Good Morning Ghana show hosted by Dr. Randy Abbey, Edudzi Tamakloe supported Nyaho Tamakloe on his comment about the state of lawlessness. He indicated that, Akuffo-Addo can be accused of fueling all the mishaps in the country because he has remained silent over the matters concerning security and abuse of power. He stated there the President is the head of the chain of command, and therefore anything that happens can be attributed to his knowledge and leadership.
According to him, the government is eroding all the democratic gains the country has made over the years. He indicated that, the soldiers have been empowered by the Ministry of Interior and Defense to act contrary and beyond their constitutional limits. He said, “What is happening today will cost us in the future. Even your founding members are all getting angry and disappointed in the leadership.”
