Ghana’s Minerals Commission has withdrawn with immediate effect, the registration of Chinese-owned Shaanxi Mining (Ghana) Ltd’s mine support service and directed it to evacuate the mining sites of its local business partners, Yenyeya Mining Group and Pubortaaba Mining Group, in the Upper East Region.
In a letter intercepted by PLAN B FM from the minerals commission, dated August 17, 2021 stated that, the commission has noted that Shaanxi Mining company has been providing contract mining services to Yenyeya Mining Group and Pubortaaba Mining Group in the Telensi in the Upper East Region since 2009.
“In the period after 2012, the minerals commission continued to renew your company’s registration because of regulations 2(3) of the Minerals and Mining (support service) regulations, 2012(LI. 2174)”, the letter added.
According to the Commission the registration of Shaanxi Mining Company cannot be renewed because of the coming into force of the Minerals and Mining (local content and local participation) regulations in 2020(LI. 2431) which has reserved contract mining service for small scale mining operations for Ghanaians.
“We are therefore by this letter withdrawing your registration as a mine support service company with effect from the date of this letter. You advised to arrange to demobilise from the sites of the two small-scale mining licence holders with immediate effect”, the letter concluded.
