NDC’s Ama Benyiwa-Doe Has Died Aged 73

A former Central Regional Minister under the John Atta Mills led-government, Ama Benyiwa-Doe, has died at the age of seventy-three (73).

She reportedly died during the early hours of today, Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Tema.

Madam Benyiwa-Doe who is popularly known as ‘Chavez’ for what many described as her strong political views and courage, died after a protracted ailment according to her aide, Jerry Kissi-Dei Yeboah.

Mr. Yeboah, the special aide to Ama Benyiwa-Doe and constituency communication officer for Gomoa West told the media that, “yes, Auntie Ama has passed. She has not been well for sometime. She will be on and off and recently she took ill seriously and we did our best to give her the best health care… On [Friday], she had to go and rest in her room but after an hour she was uncomfortable so we had to rush her to the hospital and passed. She was 73.”

The late politician was elected into Parliament during the December 1992 general elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Member of Parliament (MP) for the Gomoa West Constituency in the Central Region.

She failed in her quest to get re-elected during the subsequently election in 1996 loing to a New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.

Madam Ama Benyiwa-Doe continued to work the NDC behind the scenes even though she was not very active in politics.

Further details of her funeral arrangement is expected to be made known to the general public in the coming weeks; a period when he family would have convened over her death.
