Coup Leader Mamady Doumbouya has a said in a recent speech that his team of military officers is accountable only to the people of Guinea and will act in the interest of Guineans.
The President of Ghana and the Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State of ECOWAS, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo together with the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, His Excellency Alassane Ouattara, are in Conakry to hold talks with the military leadership in Guinea, led by Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, centering largely on the fate of President Alpha Condé, amongst others.
This comes after the emergency Summit yesterday in Accra on the situation in Guinea. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ECOWAS Chair has finally mustered courage to visit Guinea after incessant pressure.
Many think ECOWAS has put the cart before the horse. How do you impose sanctions against the new government of Guinea before taking steps to negotiate or engage them in talks? So what happens if the new government also takes entrenched position?
ECOWAS and AU must not be fire-fighting bodies. You don’t watch aloof for people to do illegal things and get overthrown before you begin your fire fighting stuffs when you had opportunity to foil the fire or ignition in the first place.
The organization is seen as one which can not determine unconstitutionalism? Many are surprised organizations in Africa are tweeting against the recent Coup D’etat in Guinea. Where were they when the Dethroned President Alpha Conde amended the Constitution to favor him just because he have majority in Parliament???
Many security analysts stated it was not an attempted Coup, It was a complete and a successful Coup and have indicated that more Coups will happen if that’s the only way things will turn around in Africa. African Leaders need to learn from the two successful coup D’etat in just one year in West Africa .
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya has responded to Union of heads of states. Colonel Mamady Doumbouya has reacted to the ECOWAS stand on Guinea following the coup that toppled former President Alpha Condé. He says, “We CNRD, remain firm on our positions and will not let ourselves be intimidated by this union of heads of state. We are accountable only to the people of Guinea.”
