Security Analyst, Samuel Nana Appiah has urged the Ghana Police service to intensify efforts aimed at improving professional standards in the service.

According to him, officer misconduct is one of the leading causes of mistrust and dwindling public confidence in the service.

Speaking on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Ohene Addo, he said police officers must prioritise community safety and work to ensure that every citizen feels safe so as to improve confidence in the service.

“Ghanaians have shown some concern and in some cases, they do not trust the police. In some situations, they do not have confidence in them and in some cases, they have lost legitimacy. The Police Service have to promote community safety and ensure that every citizen feels safe. They need to be resolute in the discharge of their mandate; they also need to be proactive and professional,” he said.

He added that, Ghana Police Service under Dr. Dampare’s administration has show signs of changing the status of the police service. He however maintained Dr. Dampare must resist political interference.
