Fire Outbreak: Over 500 Shops Burnt In Makola

Plan B news iindicates that fire has swept through some parts of the Makola market in Accra, destroying shops, stalls, and goods.

Information gathered by Plan B news indicates that over 500 shops were affected

The fire on Monday morning ravaged portions of a three-storey building; destroying valuables running into millions of Ghana cedis.

They noted that the fire started about 8:30am

Some of these affected shops served as a warehouse for some trader whiles others housed traders who sold wigs, weave-ons, perfumes, jewelleries among others.

Eyewitnesses and traders who spoke to plan b news said an electrical fault possibly started the fire but the Ghana Fire Service is yet to confirm this report.

They accused the Tudu branch of the Ghana Fire Service of not being responsive, stating that, the fire service personnel walked to the scene to confirm the fire outbreak adjacent Georgina stores.

“They arrived with 3 empty fire tenders. Is this the 64 years of independence we are celebrating? Civilians are feeling the pains of the traders, how much more you the fire officer? The Fire Service personnel arrived around 9am and that was when they started calling for reinforcement. Personnel came from Tema to douse the fire,” another said.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene in an attempt to douse the fire.

Supported by military, police personnel are trying to cordon off the busy business district of Accra so as to give free access to the fire personnel to battle the fire.

The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah and some representatives from the Metropolitan Assembly also visited the scene to assess firsthand the severity of the inferno.
