Mr. Solomon Ahinkorah, Assistant Station Officer of the Devtraco Fire Service Station in Tema has highlighted the essential roles they play in protecting and saving the lives of victims in the event of road accidents
Over the years, the institution has been prejudiced against fighting naked fires.
Speaking on Plan B FM, 104.5 morning show dubbed “Nkosuo Nsem”, during a discussion on the role of fire service in road traffic accidents, Mr. Ahinkorah hinted that, the public’s perception of them is limited to fire fighting and quickly added that their work also goes beyond that.
He noted that, the work of the Fire Service is intertwined with that of the Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service since they all play key roles in accident management. In addition he said when it comes to road collision, they have a lot to do adding that other hazards that are at the scene are to be controlled by his outfit, the Fire Service.
Apart from that, he said, they are to provide specialized equipment by that could cut, or could spread, crush as well as other equipment that can extricate casualties whenever there is a collision, especially when persons involved in the accidents are trapped and finding hard to get out the mangled vehicles.
