‘Dumsor’ Hits Volta And Oti Region As GRIDCO Releases Load Shedding Time Table

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) has released a scheduled timetable for load shedding in the Volta and Oti Regions.

A statement released by GRIDCO dated March 15, 2021 and signed by Mr. Jonathan Amoako-Baah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), GRIDCO, noted that the scheduled timetable is to enable some repairs and maintenance works to be undertaken by its engineers in the aforementioned regions.

The statement further mentioned that parts of Ho, Keta, Sogakope, Adaklu Ahunda, Akatsi, Adidome and its environs are expected to experience power outages. The power outages, the statement further pointed out will last five days, after which normal power supply is expected to resume on Monday, March 22, 2021.

Recent power outages across the country have created considerable alarm amongst the general public; especially the incident on Sunday, March 7, 2021, which led to a total power system shutdown (a similar incident occurred in May 2017). The general sentiment, undoubtable, is the fear of a return to perennial power outages, popularly known as ‘Dumsor’ which defined a period in the country in time past.

Although GRIDCO attributed it to a challenges in the power system, a section of Ghanaians are still on edge.

“The technical team is currently working to restore power supply to all Bulk Supply Points (BPSs) in the country,” the GRIDCO statement said.
