The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Kofi Osei Ameyaw has been instructed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to retire from his post as the NLA boss.
Mr. Ameyaw got the instruction to retire through a letter dated March 10, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo. The letter noted that the one year contract which was given to him expires on February 20, 2021.
Portion of the letter reads “Upon reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60 years on February 2020, the President of the Republic, by letter dated September 3, 2020, under my hand, granted you a one-year contract of service as Director-General of the National Lottery Authority”.
The letter further stated “The contract elapsed on February 20, 2021 and, therefore, you are retired.”
Mr. Ameyaw who is the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman was further directed by the letter hand over to Ernest Mortey, the Finance Director of the NLA.
Mr. Mortey, according to the letter from the Presidency, is to act as the Director-General of the Authority until a substantive Director-General is appointed. Meanwhile Mr. Osei Ameyaw has been directed to collect any terminal benefits or facilities due him under the law.

Portion of Mr. Ameyaw letter to the Presidency reads “I wish to inform the President through you that the extension of my tenure has come to an end.” He thanked President Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve him and the nation.
Earlier some workers of the NLA demanded the immediate dismissal of their Director-General over what they say is non-payment of big wins across the country. They alleged during a protest to demand for Ameyaw’s removal that some of their members have received threats and in some instances been attacked due to the development.
