Ex- Senegal international who played for Papa Bouba Diop has died aged 42 after battling a long illness.
The midfielder will be remembered for scoring the opening goal of the 2002 FIFA world Cup as Senegal shocked reigning champions France in a famous 1-0 victory.
After the tournament, he moved from Swiss club Grasshoppers to French side Lens that summer, and two years later he joined Fulham in the English Premier League in a £6m transfer.
He also had spells at AEK Athens, Portmouths, West Ham United and Birmingham City.
Diop earned 63 caps for Senegal, scoring 11 goals including that Sterling strike against France in Seoul.
