Make Your Comments On Agyapa Deal Public, Finance Minister Directed

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorised the Minister of Finance, Hon Ken Ofori-Atta to make his comments, which were contained in a confidential memorandum public.

This according to the President will contribute to the national discourse on the matter.

President Akufo-Addo also commended Special Prosecutor (SP) Martin Amidu for exercising his discretion in this regard while flagging it as an important step in enhancing the principles of good governance in the country.

The President thus welcomes the novelty of institutionalizing risk of corruption and anti-corruption risk assessment as an important preventive weapon in the country’s fight against corruption.

Following observations made by the President, he has directed the finance minister to resubmit to Parliament for restart of the approval process.

The transaction documents to be resubmitted include the relationship agreement, assignment agreement, allocation agreement and the investment agreement.

According to the President, this will help address concerns raised principally by Minority in Parliament about the limited time they were afforded to subject the various agreements to requisite scrutiny.

In line with the observation of the SP, President Akufo-Addo has directed that the procurement of services of the transaction advisors should be reviewed by the Ministry of Finance and in addition, the Attorney General, with the aim of taking all necessary steps to remove any and all doubts about the integrity of the process.
