Residents and commercial drivers in and around the Odoben, Kuntanasi and Asikuma area in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district have bemoaned the bad nature of their roads and are appealling to government to repair them after years of neglect.
According to them, roads in the area are full of potholes and stones which were used to cover up eroded areas are being washed away due to rains.
Some of the residents who spoke to Plan B FM disclosed that drivers especially commercial ones often try to steer clear of the numerous potholes on the roads, putting the lives of pedestrians and passengers in danger.
They further complained about the muddy and slippery nature of the roads whenever it rained, which they stated made it difficult for them to move freely to their destinations.
They continued that as farmers and due to high fares, they find it difficult to transport their goods.
Some drivers who ply the road also revealed how they always have to visit mechanics due to the terrible nature of the roads.
“We have to always visit the mechanic shop anytime we use the road because our vehicles always breakdown and as a result, we sometimes do not want to use the road at all.”
“We are urging our authorities to fix the roads for us. This is rainy season and potholes have been created on the road, if a driver is not careful and falls into them it is likely to cause accidents”, some of them remarked to Plan B FM.
