Traders at the Tema Community 7 market have expressed worry over the poor sanitation and the activities of thieves at the market.
The market women said the situation had been persistent over the years adding that their plea to authorities of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has yielded no result. They appealed that if nothing was done about it the situation will get to a point where mitigating it will be difficult.
Speaking to Tema based radio Station Plan B FM, some of the traders indicated that the problem had created a lot of inconvenience for them as well as buyers who are gradually refusing to buy from them.
They also complained that garbage are left uncollected for several weeks which could pose serious health implications for them and their customers.
“The situation is worrying, we’ve petitioned the authorities to come to our aid but noting concrete has come out of it”
“Sometimes the stench from the garbage is unbearable; you can’t even enjoy your food’’
“We are pleading with the leadership of TMA to find a lasting solution to these problems” they stressed.
Traders also lamented on the activities of some unscrupulous persons who rob them of their monies and belongings due to lack of proper security measures at the market. They have no proper place to keep their wares in the market, thus exposing them to thieves in the night.
The market women sell under umbrellas which do not protect them enough from the weather conditions. They are therefore at the mercy of the weather.
