Health risks associated with industrial fire fighting: GNFS speaks out

GNFS Withdraws Assault Case Against British National

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has expressed concerns regarding the health risks associated with industrial fire fighting.

DOIII Ebenezer Kwasi Yenzu, also known as ADO Ebenezer Yenzu, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Tema Regional GNFS, highlighted the dangers of industrial fire fighting during an interview with hostess Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, ‘Nyansapɔ Fie’.

According to ADO Yenzu, industrial fires pose significant health risks to firefighters and nearby residents due to the release of toxic fumes and particles into the atmosphere.

He emphasised that these substances can cause respiratory problems, skin irritation, and other health issues. ADO Yenzu also noted that industrial fires can generate intense heat, leading to heat-related illnesses and injuries.

Furthermore, he stated that the noise generated by industrial fires can cause hearing damage and other auditory problems.

ADO Yenzu urged industrial facilities to implement robust safety measures to prevent fires and minimise the risks associated with fire fighting. He also called on the government to provide adequate resources and support to enable firefighters to respond effectively and safely to industrial fires.

In addition, ADO Yenzu advised nearby residents to take precautions when industrial fires occur, such as staying indoors, avoiding inhalation of fumes, and keeping a safe distance from the fire.`
