2024 Election: It’s Alan vs. Mahama, as Bawumia fumbles and tumbles out of the race

2024 Election: It’s Alan vs. Mahama, as Bawumia fumbles and tumbles out of the race
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The recent media engagement by the NPP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has left many Ghanaians questioning his competence and integrity.

His failure to answer basic questions posed by journalists has not only damaged his credibility but also exposed a lack of preparedness for the highest office in the land.

One particularly worrying moment was his response, or lack thereof, to the deaths of eight people during the 2020 elections.

As the chairman of the Ghana Police Council, Bawumia’s inability to address such a critical issue of national interest reflects a troubling breach of integrity and sincerity.

Moreover, Bawumia’s response to the ongoing issues at COCOBOD, given his role as head of the Economic Management Team, was nothing short of shocking. His vague and uninformed answers raised serious concerns about his understanding of the economic challenges facing the country.

This was further compounded by his comments on the depreciation of the cedi, where he appeared clueless and failed to pass the test of his own famous saying: “When the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you.” His inability to offer concrete solutions or insights in this regard is alarming for someone who has been entrusted with managing the nation’s economy.

Perhaps the most startling revelation came when Bawumia was asked why he had not implemented the tax cuts and other policies he is now promising, despite having the power to do so. His response, “If I do everything now, what will I do when I come into office,” was both baffling and disheartening. It suggests a lack of genuine commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians and raises questions about his true motivations. This kind of reasoning only serves to undermine trust in his leadership and casts doubt on his ability to govern effectively.

Handing over the future of Ghana to someone as clueless as Alhaji Bawumia, alongside his running mate, “Sleepy Napo”, is as frightening as watching a Dracula horror movie. The prospect of this duo leading the country is a terrifying thought that should give every voter pause and chills.

Ghanaians deserve leaders who are not only competent but also sincere and ready to tackle the pressing issues facing the nation, not individuals who seem more interested in holding onto power than in making meaningful changes.

The race for the presidency is now clearly between Mahama and Alan Kyerematen, leaving Bawumia fumbling out of the contest.
