Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor has raised a critical question regarding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s credibility as the NPP’s presidential candidate. According to him, Bawumia has been part of the ruling part (NPP) from the beginning, so if he couldn’t prevent the economic mess we’re in how does he expect Ghanaians to believe he can fix it now?
Speaking on Oyerepa TV, which was monitored by MyNewGh.com, Jinapor launched a blistering critique of the NPP, labeling them “the most absurd party” for their contradictory stance on key economic policies. He specifically targeted the e-levy, a tax initiative introduced by the NPP that has faced significant backlash from citizens due to its perceived burden on the average Ghanaian.
“How does someone champion a policy that burdens Ghanaians and then turn around to campaign against it? This is not leadership; it’s hypocrisy,” Jinapor remarked. His frustration resonates with many who feel overwhelmed by policies that they believe have worsened their living conditions.
The former Deputy Minister of Energy further criticized the NPP’s broader economic management, asserting that it has led to severe challenges across vital sectors like health, agriculture, and education. He pointed out that critical initiatives, such as the Free Senior High School (SHS) program, are struggling due to the ongoing economic turmoil. “An economy in turmoil cannot support a strong healthcare system, education reforms, or agriculture. It’s like trying to grow a tree in barren soil—it simply won’t work,” Jinapor explained.
Moreover, Jinapor expressed skepticism about Dr. Bawumia’s credibility, given his prominent role in the current administration. He criticized Bawumia’s record, stating that the Vice President’s promises of economic stability and digital innovation have not materialized as expected. “Bawumia has been part of this government from day one. If he couldn’t prevent the economic mess we’re in, how does he expect Ghanaians to believe he can fix it now?”
