Dominic Nitiwul, former Defence Minister and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, has expressed concerns about the possibility of a coup in Ghana.
He warns that the country is not exempted from such a threat.
Speaking in an interview with AsaasePa FM, Nitiwul cautioned against dismissing the likelihood of a coup, describing such an assumption as both “mad” and “unwise.”
He emphasized that even well-established democracies like the United States and the United Kingdom are not entirely immune to political upheavals.
“But to say that coup can never happen in Ghana, then you are mad. It means you are not wise. It is not like that, even in the states, big big countries like America, you cannot say that not to talk of Ghana. Even in UK, where democracy has been all over, you can’t say that,” he stated.
He revealed that in 2019, security agencies foiled an attempted coup in Ghana, underscoring the reality of such threats.
While acknowledging the strength of Ghana’s armed forces, Nitiwul stressed the importance of continuous investment in the military and other security agencies to maintain national stability.
