According to Olivia Ansah Yeboah, a Nursing Officer at the Tema Urban Hospital, fingernails can attract dirt and microbials, making it essential to maintain clean and short nails.
In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show, Ms Yeboah advised:
“Since our fingernails serve as dirt magnets, it is advisable to always keep them neat or use cutlery sets during dining to avoid attracting microbials.”
Additionally, Ms Yeboah emphasized the importance of proper food handling and personal hygiene, stating:
“Vegetables and fruits need to be thoroughly washed with vinegar before consumption to avoid contacting microbes. Hawkers of consumables should also maintain personal hygiene by either using sanitizers, as they cannot carry water and soap during hawking.”
Ms Yeboah further stressed that hand washing is crucial, even though COVID-19 is no longer a prominent concern, as microbials continue to grow and toughen skin. She also highlighted the importance of:
– Covering one’s nose when sneezing
– Proper food handling to break the infection chain
– Maintaining cleanliness in daily routines to prevent the spread of microbials
Ms Yeboah asserted, “Out of uncleanness, people get affected by microbes through our daily routines, and therefore people must always get their hands clean at all costs.”
”Remember, cleanliness is key to preventing the spread of microbials. Wash those hands and maintain good hygiene habits. Let’s prioritize our health and well-being by making cleanliness a habit,” Ms Yeboah adddd.
