A leading member of the incumbent government New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere Darko, has tweeted about the recent fret of Ghanaians about the budget read by Honorable Ken Ofori Atta.

He said that Ghanaians want challenges facing the country to be addressed but same people are against the government’s decision to raise revenue through levies to undertake the development projects.

Ghana’s development paradox. You say you want the country fixed. Yet, you are against raising revenue to get it fixed! Motives matter!

“Ghana’s development paradox. You say you want the country fixed. Yet, you are against raising revenue to get it fixed! Motives matter!”  according to the former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute on Monday November 22, 2021

His comment came after the E-levy policy proposal in the 2022 budget statement presented to Parliament by the Finance Minister met resistance from Ghanaians including the Minority in parliament , Samuel Nartey George, The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram has said the proposed E-levy is a rip off.

The E-levy has been described as a ponzi scheme intended to tax the same value of money multiple times.

Honorable Sam George in a tweet said,“The more I process the e-Levy, the angrier I get. It is a complete rip off. It is a taxation ponzi scheme designed to tax d same value of money multiple times. It is plain government thievery & I cannot vote to approve a budget that has that levy included. No!”
