You Could Be Fined If You Do Not Participate In The 2021 Population And Housing Census – GSS

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is urging all Ghanaians to participate in the upcoming population and housing census to avoid being prosecuted.

The 2021 census will begin across the country on Sunday, June 27, and end on July 11, 2021.The exercise seeks to enumerate all persons and living quarters within Ghana at a specific time.

Speaking to Ohene Addo on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’, Head of Census publicity and advocacy Mr. Francis Nyarko Larbi said, citizens who refuse to cooperate with Census officers could be hit with a hefty fine.

“You can be arrested and prosecuted if you refuse to provide data for the census officers on the day of the exercise. You will be sent to court and the necessary punishments will be meted out to you,” he said.

Mr. Francis Nyarko Larbi, also indicated that the exercise is conducted every ten years, and therefore no one must be left out.

“We are giving every person in Ghana a voice so that the right intervention can be instituted right to the individual level rather than the aggregate that we’ve been using.”

“This exercise is meant to generate data that will be used in decision-making and planning for the development of the country and its citizens. Preparations are far advanced to ensure the exercise commences successfully,” he concluded.

The GSS was supposed to have conducted the census in 2020 but due to the coronavirus pandemic which was at its peak then, they had to suspend it.
