YEA Opens Inclusive Fashion Hub In Kumasi To Empower PWDs

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has officially inaugurated the Make Fashion Inclusive Hub in Kumasi—an innovative initiative aimed at equipping Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with practical fashion and dressmaking skills.

The project, rolled out in collaboration with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), seeks to train and empower 100 PWDs with hands-on vocational skills in the fashion industry, with a focus on promoting inclusion, economic self-reliance, and sustainable employment.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Basintale emphasised the importance of empowering all segments of society through targeted interventions.

“This hub is not just a training centre; it is a beacon of opportunity that affirms our belief that disability is not inability.

Through this programme, our brothers and sisters with disabilities will acquire industry-relevant skills that position them for entrepreneurship or meaningful employment,” he stated.

The Make Fashion Inclusive Hub is part of YEA’s broader commitment to inclusive development and aligns with its mandate to create job opportunities for Ghana’s youth, including marginalised groups.

Representatives from GIZ, local government, disability advocacy groups, and beneficiaries attended the event, hailing the hub as a transformative step in addressing unemployment and boosting confidence among PWDs.

Beneficiaries are expected to receive full support throughout their training, including mentorship, tools, and startup assistance to establish their own fashion enterprises after graduation.

The hub is expected to serve as a model for future inclusive vocational training projects across the country.
