Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have qualified to the group stage of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.
The Moroccans thrashed the Porcupine Warriors 5-1 in the second leg of the second preliminary round on Friday, October 24.
WAC, therefore, make it to the group stage on a 6-1 aggregate after securing a 1-0 win in Accra last Sunday.
It was a difficult game for Abdul-Karim Zito’s side, trailing from that home defeat less than a week ago.
Less than a minute into the game, WAC broke the deadlock, compounding the situation for Asante Kotoko.
However, captain Samba O’Neil restored parity in the 18th minute with a towering header.
West African national Aziz Ki made it 2-1 before the break.
Two penalties and an injury-time strike in the second half ensured that the game ended 5-1.
With Asante Kotoko’s exit, there are no continental representatives for Ghana in the group phase of inter-club competitions this year. Bibiani Goldstars had exited the CAF Champions League 7-0 on aggregate to JS Kabylie.
