36-year-old trader, Ruth Arthur, alias Amina, has been granted bail by the Enchi District Magistrate Court after allegedly breaking into her ex-lover’s home, setting his belongings on fire, and stealing money.
The court set her bail at GH₵30,000 with two sureties after she pleaded guilty with an explanation to charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and theft.
Judge Lawrence Buanor-Buer had initially planned to proceed with sentencing after Ruth’s guilty plea. However, following her explanation, the court decided to grant her bail instead.
The case was brought forward by General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante, with the complainant, David Anni (alias Nana Atopah), an Okada rider from Amonie in the Aowin Municipality.
Ruth and David had been in a relationship for two years, but after the heartbreaking loss of their two-month-old child, Ruth’s family disapproved of their relationship, which led to their separation.
On March 3, 2025, while David attended a wedding, Ruth allegedly broke into his room around 7:10 AM and set his belongings on fire.
David was alerted to the incident by a friend, Akwasi, and upon rushing back home, he discovered that his room had been broken into and his savings of GH₵22,000 had been stolen.
An inspection of the property revealed significant damage, including the destruction of a 32-inch Hisense TV, a Binatone fan, Sony speakers, a master decoder, and a double-bed mattress, along with kitchen items.
The total damage was estimated at GH₵27,019.
When police arrived, they found that a mattress and several personal items had been partially burned. Ruth later confessed to the crime during her police interrogation.
She has been charged and is awaiting further proceedings in court.
