Winneba put on alert as NACOC moves to secure Aboakyiri Festival

With the vibrant Aboakyiri Festival fast approaching, security agencies are stepping up efforts to keep Winneba safe—and the Narcotics Control Commission is leading that charge.

In a pre-festival operation, NACOC officers carried out a targeted swoop across sections of the municipality, acting on intelligence pointing to suspected drug trafficking activities. The exercise forms part of broader measures to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the influx of visitors during the celebrations.

The operation is understood to have disrupted a network believed to be involved in the distribution of illicit substances within the town. Security officials confirm that suspected narcotics were retrieved, while several individuals were picked up for questioning.

Investigations remain active, with authorities hinting at further action as they work to dismantle the network completely. Officials say the crackdown sends a clear signal: heightened vigilance will define this year’s festivities.

Residents and visitors have been assured that security arrangements are being reinforced to guarantee a peaceful and incident-free celebration.
