The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has officially announced that by-elections for vacant positions in various Electoral Areas and Unit Committees across the country will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The polls are being conducted to fill vacancies created by the resignations or deaths of assembly members and unit committee members, in strict compliance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.
In a press release signed by EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, on October 6, 2025, the commission detailed the timeline for the nomination process as follows:
• Forms Available: Nomination forms are available free of charge at all EC District Offices and can be downloaded from the Commission’s website.
• Submission Window: Completed nomination forms must be submitted between Monday, October 13 and Thursday, October 16, 2025.
• Daily Submission Times: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
• Candidate Documents: Candidates must submit forms in quadruplicate, accompanied by two recent passport-sized photographs with a red background.

Election Type Required Support
Electoral Area Proposer, Seconder, and 18 registered voters residing in the area.
Unit Committee Proposer, Seconder, and 8 other registered voters from the same area.

Submissions must be made personally by the candidate, their Proposer, or their Seconder, directly to the Returning Officer in the relevant Electoral Area.

Regions Involved
The elections are extensive, covering over 1,500 polling stations across multiple regions, including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western, Western North, and others.
Notable districts and communities set for the polls include:
• Greater Accra: Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang, and Adenta.
• Central Region: Cape Coast, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, and Mfantseman.
• Western Region: Jomoro, Ellembelle, and Nzema East, and Sekondi-Takoradi
• Eastern Region: Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, and New Juaben
• Ashanti Region: Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe, and Offinso North
• Volta Region: Keta, Ketu South, Ho, and Afadjato South
The list of all vacant Electoral Areas and Units with the corresponding number of polling stations have been provided by the commission and is available at district offices and online.
The Electoral Commission is encouraging all eligible citizens to actively participate in the by-elections and assures the public of its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the process.
