We’ll attack you if you dare organise an election here – Residents roar over collapsed school building

We’ll attack you if you dare organise an election here – Residents roar over collapsed school building

Angry residents and opinion leaders at Twifo 34, a community in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of the Central region, have threatened to unleash mayhem on anyone who would come and campaign or organise an election in the area.

Following the collapse of their school building, the outraged constituents and their leaders said that they would neither participate in the general elections nor allow any political party to arrange campaign activities.

According to them, the school building is the only basic school in the town, and its collapse has had an impact on teaching and learning.

The school was put up by the community through communal labour in 1998.

They used local building materials like sticks and sand to build the school.

The school has detrioriated over the years and collapsed recently following a heavy rainfall in the community.

The Unit Committee Chairman of Twifo 34, Macarthy Togbe, issued a warning to the government, and it’s assigns not to dare step foot in the area to organise an election.

He also cautioned political parties not to organise campaign activities in the community.

He said they will unleash mayhem on them, and the government will have to deploy soldiers to intervene.

He also invoked curses, saying anyone who fails to listen to their call and dare them will face consequences.

“If they don’t construct a new school building for us, the. Then they should not stop a foot in the community. If they do or bring ballot boxes here to organise an election, we will deal with them ruthlessly. If they bring ballot boxes here, then they would have to come along with 800 or more because we will not allow them. They would have to kill us all. I also have in my hands a schnapp invoking curses that should they fail to construct the new school building before the elections, then may the gods deal with them and their families.”

Some residents who also spoke revealed that they have reported the situation to the Twifo Atti-morkwa district assembly, but they have failed to address their concerns.

They stressed the need for authorities to address the issue with immediate effect since it has halted teaching and learning.

Others also appealed to individuals and philanthropists to intervene since the children are studying under trees and have to go home whenever it rains.
