Wedding decorations and electrical equipment have been destroyed after fire gutted two container shops at Lapaz, near Access Bank in Accra, on Tuesday morning.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at about 8:13 a.m. (0813 hours) reporting a fire outbreak involving the two container shops.

Firefighters from the Anyaa Fire Station, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I Kissi Mensah, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the crew met the containers fully engulfed in flames. Despite challenges at the scene, the firefighters managed to contain and completely extinguish the fire in an hour

The affected containers were being used for the storage of wedding and party decorations as well as the sale of electrical equipment, all of which were completely destroyed by the fire.

However, adjoining structures were successfully protected from the blaze.

No casualties were recorded.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by the unattended burning of refuse near one of the shops, which spread and ignited the containers.
