Dennis Amfo-Sefah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tema West, has issued a strong warning following the recent violent clash at the Ablekuma Central by-election rerun, where former MP Hawa Koomson was allegedly assaulted by individuals believed to be affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking during an interview on Plan B FM’s Nkosuo Nsem morning show, Mr. Amfo-Sefah addressed accusations of the NPP’s involvement in political violence, specifically referencing the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, where an NDC MP was assaulted.
He offered a bold defense:
“Yes, during Ayawaso West Wuogon, an MP was beaten — but it was by people in National Security uniforms. At least we knew who they were, and they were in uniform,” he stated. “But in the just-ended Ablekuma rerun, Hawa Koomson was beaten by thugs — not men in uniform, not national security — but NDC thugs.”
Mr. Amfo-Sefah warned that his party will not approach the upcoming Akwatia by-election with complacency.
“We in the NPP are not going to Akwatia unprepared. We have learnt our lessons. If the President is failing to bring those thugs to book, then we are going to fully prepare ourselves. Enough is enough.”
