President of the Ghana National Association of Cocoa Farmers, Anane Boateng has threatened they will have no option than to resort to parliament to demand for the unsual delays in the payment for their produce.
Speaking on Plan B FM Morning show dubbed ‘Nkouo Nsem’ Mr. Anane expressed with concerns the delays in the payment has taken a heavy toll on their livelihoods.
“We depend on these cocoa sales to take care of our families, to meet basic needs such as food, medical bills and school fees,” he said
“We’ve tried every possible means to get our monies, but we’ve still not received our cash for several weeks; if the situation persist, we will have no option than to storm parliament to demand for our monies,” He added
Local farmers, who sell their cocoa beans to Produce Buying Company has not received their cash for some time now.
According to the aggrieved cocoa farmers, Produce Buying Company (PBC) and other license buying companies have failed to honor their consideration after purchasing their cocoa beans from them.
Parliament has summoned the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen Aidoo, over his Cocoa Board indebtedness to cocoa license buying companies and farmers across the country.
