The Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners has indicated that its outfit will proof to the Government on why there is a need to involve them in the fight against illegal mining in Ghana.
According to the Public Relations Officer of Smale Scale Miners Association, Abdul Razak the government needs to give the small-scale miners association the opportunity to involve in the fight against illegal mining in the country.
Speaking on PLAN B FM’s Morning Show dubbed Nkosuo Nsem, he revealed that, this decision will enable a smooth ending to illegal mining because according to them they know how illegal miners operate.
“We have been with those involved in illegal mining for long and we know how they operate, so arresting them with our task force is a very easy task for us”, he said.
Mr. Abdul indicated that, while their outfit are familiar with the grounds and how illegal miners operate, it will be of good results if security agencies involved in the fight support them with resources while they also support them with how to identify small scale miners easily.
“We have the task force who are always ready to go an extra mile to apprehend illegal miners and send them to the security agencies, but what we don’t have is the resources to apprehend them”, he indicated.
Abdul Razak noted that Small Scale miners are business people whose interest is to work with all governments to succeed,
Thirteen (13) illegal miners have been arrested by the task force of the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners (GNASSM).
The suspects including some West African Nationals were arrested at Accra Village, Mampong, Nkatieso, Mokyere, and other places operating on the Birim river.
