We will not hesitate to rely on legal frameworks to resolve this Issue-Afenyo-Markin

Parliament Brouhaha: Stop the childish behavior and think about Ghana – Felix Kwasi jabs NPP Caucus in Parliament

The Majority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has committed to resolving the ongoing standoff in the legislature by initiating dialogue with Speaker Alban Bagbin. The pledge comes amidst growing tensions that have disrupted parliamentary operations and stalled critical national discussions.

Speaker Bagbin, frustrated by the deadlock, recently expressed his concerns about the current impasse. In a public statement, he pointed to a lack of communication and proper planning as central issues hampering the progress of parliamentary work. “The absence of a clear agenda from the Business Committee has made it impossible for the House to function effectively,” Bagbin remarked. As a result, he was forced to adjourn the sitting indefinitely, underscoring the importance of structured planning and cooperation within the House to facilitate meaningful deliberations.

According to Ghana web, The adjournment highlighted the dysfunction within Parliament, as the session, which was convened to address pressing national issues, failed to proceed due to the absence of key stakeholders and a clear agenda. Speaker Bagbin emphasized that without input from parliamentary committees and a well-organized roadmap, it w

ould be difficult to tackle the important matters at hand. “For the House to function effectively, there must be an agreement on the way forward, and that begins with communication and proper planning,” Bagbin said.In response to the crisis, the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, reaffirmed the caucus’s commitment to engaging with Speaker Bagbin in a constructive dialogue aimed at resolving the deadlock. Afenyo-Markin expressed optimism about finding a solution, despite the growing frustration. “We are ready to sit down with the Speaker and work through the issues. Our goal is to restore normalcy and ensure that Parliament is functioning effectively,” he said. However, Afenyo-Markin also made it clear that should talks fail, the Majority Caucus would be prepared to explore legal options. “We believe in dialogue, but if that fails, we will not hesitate to rely on legal frameworks to resolve the issue.”
