The President of the Environmental Health Officers Association (EHOA), Yaw Akwaa Lartey has stated that their strike action will continue until government finds a solution to their challenges.
Mortuaries for preserving dead bodies in various health facilities in the country are reportedly getting full following a strike by Environmental Health Officers.
The EHOA is embarking on a nationwide strike action over poor working conditions. They suspended the burial of Covid-19 infected corpses across the country last month.
Speaking on Plan B FM ‘Ebaanosen’ with Bohyeba Afriyie, Mr. Yaw Akwaa Lartey said the association was compelled to embark on the strike action because the government and the health authorities refused to address their concerns.
“Until the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service supply us with the needed PPEs, we will continue with the strike. Covid dead bodies shouldn’t be kept at the morgue for more than a week. We lack the needed resources to carry on with our job. This has become necessary because, for over a year now, all Covid-19 dead bodies buried in this country is done by us. Most of our members lack the needed personal protective equipment (PPEs), and other incentives. We are not going to return to work until our demands are met,” he stated.
He also bemoaned the preferential treatment being given to other health workers across the country at the detriment of their members which include training and workshop.
