The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) is set to deal with issues regarding reclamation to avert dangers accompanied with abandoned open mined pits  in order to  sanitise the industry.                      Stressing on illegal mining and reclamation, the association stand is to help maintain set down principles in small scale mining activities to safeguard responsibility and sustainability.
They are therefore pleading with the government to always make sure it involves them in attempts to embark on any reclamation drive.

Mr. Abdul Alhasan Razak, Communication Director of the  association has on Plan B Fm’s Ebanoosen hosted by Bohyeba decried the danger pose by abandoned open mining pits and has therefore  entreated members of the association to redirect attention to reclaiming uncovered mined portions of acquired concessions. To him, that is the only antidote for public support  as a way of sustaining the small scale mining sector.

He said that he is convinced that responsible and sustainable mining can only be attained if small scale mining activities are devoid of environmental degradation especially deserted open pits.

He stressed the need for small scale miners to appreciate the importance of reclamation as their part of the shared responsibility towards nation building.

He concluded by commending some small scale members who have exemplary reclaimed their mined sites and put it back for other productive activities, he reiterated the need for government to involve the association in its  attempt to embark on any reclamation drive.
