We Need Logistics And Infrastructure To Be Able To Implement Education Policies – Educationist To Gov’t

We Need Logistics And Infrastructure To Be Able To Implement Education Policies – Educationist To Gov’t

Educationist, Matthew Nyaaba says Ghana’s educational system needs the required logistics and resources to be able to function properly.

According to him, the country’s educational sector has seen a plethora of good policies but lack the necessary tools and logistics for it to be able to operate successfully.

“If you ask me to rate the implementation of our educational policies from the basic level to the tertiary level, I will rate it at 40%. Right now, the policies are there in documents, but practically we need infrastructure and logistics to implement the policies. That is what we are lacking now; we have been able to come up with good policies that when you read on documents you will salute Ghana, but on grounds, we are facing challenges” he remarked on Plan B FM ‘Ebaanosen’ with Bohyeba Afriyie.

Matthew Nyaaba, who is also a lecturer at the Gambaga College of Education, went on to say that, the new curriculum that has been introduced by the Ghana Education Service (GES), does not have the required logistics to enhance teaching and learning in our schools.

“We have a new curriculum, but when you go to our basic schools they don’t even have text books to implement it. We have seen how the free SHS is being implemented without textbooks and infrastructure. Numbers were increased in 2017; it’s a good policy to make sure that everybody acquire some basic education to enhance their skills in the second cycle institution. The problem is that we did not cater for accommodation for the students, same applies to their feeding. If you go to some of the Senior High Schools, they don’t even have dining halls that can accommodate all of them. So the policies are very good, but when it comes to it implementation, the logistics and the infrastructure are not there,” he said.
