We need a law that disqualifies candidates who engage in vote-buying during elections – Barker-Vormawor

Lawyer and Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has suggested that the State should capitalize on politicians’ vulnerabilities to hold them accountable.

He emphasizes that many politicians would rather secure votes through buying instead of earning power through hard work and competence. To address this, Barker-Vormawor advocates for a review of the constitution to incorporate disqualification for individuals involved in vote buying.

His remarks were made following the recently concluded NPP Presidential Primaries, which witnessed documented instances of monetary incentives being offered to delegates.

“If we had a system for instance in terms of law-making and we said that any candidate or whose candidate on behalf of the candidate, money was offered to another person will automatically be disqualified,” he said on Newsfile on JoyNews on Saturday.
