Fatimatu Abubakar, former Minister of Information, has responded to claims made by New Patriotic Party (NPP) national Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua claiming their devastating failure in the December 2024 national elections was due to spiritual influence.
According to Fatimatu, Mr. Kodua, as the party’s head scribe, should not have made such a claim.
“He is the party’s CEO and general scribe, so how could he say it was spiritual?” she inquired.
Mr. Kodua asserted that there were unexplainable events on the day of the election that revealed a supernatural dimension to the results.
He emphasized the relatively low voter turnout among NPP supporters across the country, which he says cannot be explained using traditional methods.
However, Fatimatu disagreed during an interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen broadcast.
“The committee’s report has not even been out, and we have not begun our work, so why make such a remark against the committee? “It’s unnecessary,” she stated.
She pointed out that Mr. Kodua was also a member of the committee appointed to investigate the loss, wondering, “Why would you say it was spiritual when you were on the committee?”
Fatimatu emphasized the necessity of leaders being strong in challenging situations.
“People look up to us, and when we are broken, we should be strong,” she stated.
She went on to say that if Mr. Kodua had avoided such comments and waited for the committee to do its work, it would have been more beneficial.
“I did not expect Justin Kodua to claim that our electoral defeat was a spiritual issue. “We should avoid some of these statements,” she said.
