Ghana’s U-20 team, The Black Satellites have qualified for the Africa Youth Championship in Mauritania next year after defeating Niger in the WAFU Zone B U-20 championship.
Ghana emerged victorious via 5-3 penalty shootout over the Nigeriens. After an impressive start to the game, Ghana were denied the lead after two brilliant saves by Niger goalie, Abubakar Issaka.
The second half of the game saw both sides having a fair share of possession but for the woodwork, a brilliant Precious Boah freekick in the 56th minute would have given Ghana the lead.
Both sides were not clinical in the final third and approached the game cautiously forcing the game into extra time.
Ghana had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half of extra time before coach Karim Zito introduced goalkeeper Emmanuel Essue for Dan Lad Ibrahim with spot kicks in sight.
Ghana will now face the Burkina Faso in the finals of the WAFU U-20 Championships after they defeated Ivory Coast by 4-1.
