Vaccinate domestic animals against rabies – Public advised
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Doctor of Veterinary at the Tema Animal Hospital of the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Rebecca Kenyin has urged the general public to vaccinate their domestic animals against rabies.

Rebbies is dangerous and needs to be prevented as a country.

Dr. Rebecca stated that, currently there is free vaccination against rabies ongoing at various hospitals for humans and aside the free vaccination, the public is advised to take their domestic animals to the animal hospital or to a Veterinary Doctor to be vaccinated.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s ‘Apomuden Fie’ show hosted by Aduanaba Kwadwo Amponsah Okrubi on Saturday, September 28, Dr. Rebecca expressed that, dog or cat bite or scratch on the skin, will be infected with rabies if only the dog or cat is infected with the disease.

“If either dog or cat bite or scratch on your skin quickly wash the affected place thoroughly for fifteen minutes (15 minutes) under running water. Then go to hospital and report what has happened to the Doctor for treatment with the post-exposure human anti-rebbies vaccine” she noted.

Dr. Rebecca added that, there is also a pre-exposure vaccine which can be injected to prevent rabies attack.
