Plan B FM’s family, relationship, and lifestyle show dubbed NYANSAPO FIE, hosted by Dr. Michael Asenso is continuously educating the general public about how important they should prioritise their health, tackling the topic “Conjunctivitis (Apollo)”

Mrs, Divina Appiah a principal Ophthalmic Nurse from Tema Policy Eye Department has explained that, Conjunctivitis, popularly known as Apollo, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, which is the superficial layer of the white part of the eyeball. Conjunctivitis is commonly caused by a viral infection, or less commonly, a bacterial infection.

She explained that,Viral and bacterial conjunctivitis are very contagious and spread easily from person to person through direct contact, infected surfaces, and sharing personal items such as makeup, towels, contact lenses, eyeglasses, pillows, etc.

She said, one can try rinsing out the infected eye with saltwater. Saltwater has the same properties as tears and is a natural antiseptic. Saltwater kills germs and may kill some of the bacteria in your eye. Using saltwater is one of the most common eye infection treatments.

She further stated that, frequent handwashing with soap and water prevents virus transfer to your eyes. Avoid touching your eyes with unwashed hands to prevent introducing viruses to the sensitive eye area. Use clean towels and avoid sharing personal items like towels or eye makeup in public spaces such as gyms or swimming pools.

She also advised the general public to desist from the use of breast milk in treating conjunctivitis ‘Apollo’ because it also has effect on the eye.
