Unidentified military-clad men demolish Tetteh Quarshie Art Market

Unknown men in military uniforms have reportedly demolished the Tetteh Quarshie Art Market and several adjoining businesses located near the Deloitte office building in Accra, sparking confusion and outrage among traders.

The incident has left affected shop owners counting their losses as structures were pulled down without prior notice, according to eyewitness accounts.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yussif Jajah, has confirmed the incident and strongly condemned the action, calling for immediate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the exercise.

He described the incident as unacceptable, especially in a democratic environment, and law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability.

He further revealed that the Ministry will take up the matter and engage relevant stakeholders to establish the facts and ensure appropriate action is taken.

“Even if you have the power to take over this land, let the people take their valuables before you destroy the whole place. Now that I am with the MCE, there are certain things I will discuss with him off camera then we see how we can bring this matter to an end. We are in a democratic country. We will take this matter to the appropriate quarters,” he assured.

Meanwhile, affected traders are calling for clarity on the identity of the individuals involved and the authority under which the demolition was carried out, as concerns grow over the protection of businesses and property rights.
