U23 AFCON: Afriyie Barnieh scores as Black Meteors draw with Egypt in friendly

U23 AFCON: Afriyie Barnieh scores as Black Meteors draw with Egypt in friendly
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored from the spot as the Black Meteors drew 1-1 against Egypt’s U23 National Team in an international friendly at the Alexandria Stadium.

Fatawu Issahaku was brought down in the penalty box leading to the FC Zurich striker sending the Egypt goalkeeper the wrong way with a well-taken penalty in the 9th minute.

Ghana conceded a penalty but goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim pulled a save to deny the hosts in the 20th minute.

Egypt, who are the defending African U23 Champions pushed for the equalizer and were rewarded when Ibrahim Adel slotted home before the break.

Ghana endured more agony when Zubairu Ibrahim was red-carded with just a minute to half time.

Both teams played well in the second half, and Coach Ibrahim Tanko made substitutions to prepare the team for the upcoming tournament.

The Black Meteors will travel to Cairo for further training and another friendly on June 19, before heading to Morocco for the U23 AFCON scheduled for June 24 to July 8, 2023.

Ghana is in Group A and will face host nation, Morocco, Guinea, and Congo for a place at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
